specified printer has lost its connection to the server

When trying to either access or delete a canon printer on our file server I
continually get the following error msg:
'Operation cannot be completed. Either the printer name is typed incorrectly
or the specified printer has lost connection to the server'
I have tried deleted from the registry first but, still doesn't help
Anyone got any ideas?
