I have seen this setup several different ways and would like your guys and
gals opinion. Scenario: Three domain controllers all on the same domain A domain controller is the first DC on the domain and holds all FSMO roles B domain controller is at a remote office C domain controller is at another remote office Should the first DNS IP point back to DC A for all servers? Then what should the second DNS IP point to on each server? Madrino |

For DC-A, point to itself, then choose one of the DCs with either the more reliable or faster link or one of the more robust servers in one of the other sites. Curious, do you have Sites implemented? -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. Having difficulty reading or finding responses to your post? Instead of the website you're using, I suggest to use OEx (Outlook Express or any other newsreader), and configure a news account, pointing to news.microsoft.com. This is a direct link to the Microsoft Public Newsgroups. It is FREE and requires NO ISP's Usenet account. OEx allows you to easily find, track threads, cross-post, sort by date, poster's name, watched threads or subject. Not sure how? No should I?
Do you know of a good article on setting up sites? Thanks for your reply and help. Sites control three things: 1. Replication traffic: minimizes and compresses replication traffic. 2. Schedule when replication is allowed and for how long of a time. 3. And most important of all, authentication (logon) traffic to use a DC in it's own Site instead of authenticating to a DC across the WAN. Create a Site, associate it with the DefaultIPLink, give it a name, such as "Philly-Site". Create a subnet object, such as "192.168.20.0", associating it with the Philly-Site. Then look at the DefaultIPLink properties, and in there you can play around with the schedule, and more. Servers will automatically know what Site they are in because of their IP address. You can even setup Printer Location Tracking. Give a printer a location, and people can search by location down to the room level, or even down to a level such as "/Philly/Building2/Rm203/back of room". Cool feature. Set them up for many of my clients, especially this one repographics company where they have 6 locations, 30 people in each location, but almost 50 printers in some locations. It made it easy for them to find their many printers. Here's some helpful reading...
