Default VPN problem with W2003 Std

Hi,

My RRAS service will not start. If I try to start it manually, it fails and
issues error 691.

The system event log has the following to say:
The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error
691 (0x2B3).
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Microsoft's automatic diagnostic doesn't come up with any advice, and the KB
only refers to W2000 problems - "install SP4" etc.

Help please!!

Many thanks,

NEIL

Normally, error 691 is permission error. I would check the RRAS service logon username and password first.

Robert

I found that out as well, and checked - it's set to use system account. If I change this to administrator, it says cant work because it depends on services using a different account. In fact they all use Networkd Services (or something like that) account.

I have tried removing RRAS and re-configuring it, but that didn't resolve this issue. I have a similar configuration on other W2003 systems that does work, so really not sure where I have gone wrong.
