Default Connect from XP to share on Windows Server 2003

Hi,

I've a problem with a share on Windows 2003.
The server is in a domain, but is no domain controller. The users in
Active Directory
are declared on another server, but the Windows 2003 recognize all
these users.

When I try to connect a share from a Windows 2000 PC, everything works
normal.
The network connection is directly made.

But when I try to make the share from a Windows XP machine, I cannot
make
the connection with my login from Active Directory, because there is a
Windows
Prompt with a username and password.
The share permissions and NTFS security is OK on that directory.

How is it possible that I cannot create a network share on a XP based
on my
Active Directory login ?

Thanks for your help.

Inge

There can be quite a few reasons...

Fist -- make sure you are logged into domain and not locally to the
computer.

Next -- my question would be how is DNS set up on this computer and how is
DNS set up on the DC server? Where do these computers point to for DNS
resolution?

Last suggestion. Can you check your event logs and see if there are any
errors there (specially in System and Application logs).

Thanks for your answer.

1) The XP PC, the domain controller (= Windows 2000 server) and the
file server (= Windows 2003 server) are all
in the same domain. We use active directory to login.

2) DNS is the same on alle the computers. It is the IP-adres of our
domain controller, who is also our internal DNS server.

3) There are no errors in the event log of the file server (Windows
2003). I can only see an entry with this text :

Event Type: Success Audit

Hi,

I just noticed something in tje security event log :

when I login on a Windows 2000 PC there is in the username part : ih

I think I know the reason, but I don't know how to solve this.

We had an another server with the same name. (SRV-DTP).
I renamed that server in SRV-DTP2.
The new server has the name SRV-DTP.

PC's who have never had a connection to that older server, have no
problem with the network connections.
When I make a login on my PC with a different user, it works normal.
But with my initials (who has had a connection to the older server), it
doesn't work.
The old server was not in the domain.

I deleted all the SRV-DTP references in the registry, but it is still
not working.

Regards,
Inge
