Both PCs should get IP addresses in the same subnet, usually in the 192.168.x.x range. What does the me pc show for its IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server? -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Hi in XP goto start, programs, accessories, command prompt. At the command prompt type: ipconfig/all <Enter> This will show all IP info. You should go into your router setup (192.168.2.1) and add the DNS server 192.168.1.1 >-----Original Message----- >HI > >>Both PCs should get IP addresses in the same subnet, usually in the >> 192.168.x.x range. >THE WIN ME COMPUTER HAS THE IP 198.168.2.101 AND XP COMPUTER HAS IP >198.168.2.100 > >>What does the me pc show for its IP address, >> subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server? >This is on both pc`s >SUBNETMASK 255.255.255.0 >DEFAULT GATEWAY 192.168.2.1 >DNS SERVER 192.168.2.1 >The router looks like it did it`s bit, the problem is in the me computer?. >here`s what the user manual says about setting up windows me; >install TCP/IP done this >properties >check each of the tabs >Bindings: check client for Microsoft networks and printer sharing for >Microsoft networks done this >Gateway: all fields are blank done this >Dns configuration: select disable dns done this. >wins configuration: select disable wins resolution done this >ip address: select obtain ip address automatically done this. > >it also says make sure the router`s DHCP is the only server on the lan, how >do i check for this on xp and me systems? > >Thanks >Brendan > >"brendan" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message >news:(E-Mail Removed)... >> I`ve just bought a edimax router br6104 and connected my 2 pc`s to the >> router and the router to my cable modem and then set up the router. >> >> the problem is the pc running windows me can`t get on the internet the >first >> pc which is windows xp pro has no problems >> the router has given the 2 pc`s different ip addresses >> >> and I can ping the router and the pc running xp ok >> green leds on port 1 & 2 are flashing ok (tried swapping them same >problem) >> I`ve set up the 2 pc`s as in the user manual and double checked the config >> everything is as it should be in the manual. >> >> the windows me pc worked fine before on the internet >> I just set it up to go through the cable modem and moved the cable from pc >> to pc as needed. >> >> Anyideas >> Thanks >> bren >> >> > > >. > |
