I have several PCs sharing a network printer, all the PCs running W98 are ok but I have just connected a Gateway Laptop which uses Windows Me, it cannot see the printer in "my network places" although all the other PCs are visible. I can Ping the printer from the DOS command shell of the PC in question. I have the correct printer driver installed. All the troubleshoot tips assume that the printer is visible on the network and I don't know how to proceed. .. |

Thanks for repsponding, I cannot ping the printer by name from any PC on the network, the name is not DOS friendly, having more than 8 characters. Typing ping -a xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on any of the PCs does not return a host name for the printer, even though a host name is visible in Network Neighborhood on the PCs running W98. Are you on to something ? Any further help greatly appreciated... >-----Original Message----- >On Mon, 14 Jul 2003 14:51:05 GMT,"Kevin J" <(E-Mail Removed)> >penned this whopper in news:091901c34a17$5a6e30e0 $(E-Mail Removed): > >> I have several PCs sharing a network printer, all the PCs >> running W98 are ok but I have just connected a Gateway >> Laptop which uses Windows Me, it cannot see >> the printer in "my network places" although all the other >> PCs are visible. >> >> I can Ping the printer from the DOS command shell of the >> PC in question. Not really <scratching chin and mumbling> what kind of printer, does it have it's own network server or is this a share on another Windows host? I assume you ran the add printer wizard and tried copying the exact settings as on the W98 boxes. Have you tried a port capture? > >>-----Original Message----- >>On Mon, 14 Jul 2003 14:51:05 GMT,"Kevin J" > <(E-Mail Removed)> >>penned this whopper in news:091901c34a17$5a6e30e0 > $(E-Mail Removed): >> >>> I have several PCs sharing a network printer, all the > PCs >>> running W98 are ok but I have just connected a Gateway >>> Laptop which uses Windows Me, it cannot see >>> the printer in "my network places" although all the > other >>> PCs are visible. >>> >>> I can Ping the printer from the DOS command shell of > the >>> PC in question.
