Can't load network components

I'm trying to add a network card to my ME machine.
Windows detects and then installs the correct NIC drivers.

Next I try to add either a client or protocol by going
into network properties, click add and then select either
client or protocol and click add. Nothing happens when I
click add! Nothing, no lockup, no message, nothing.

I thought that the 3 inf files might be corrupt so I
restored them from the cab files using msconfig, but no
changes.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
