ME and Novell Client

Having a serious issue with speed on our ME PC while
connected to our Novell Network. Using Client 32, Ver 3.?
on the ME machine.

Is there any fix or is it possible to 'upgrade' the
operating system to 98 without reformatting the hard drive
and reinstalling.
