Network Properties | Configuration The following should be showing Client for MS Networks <your ethernet card> TCP/IP File and Printer sharing for MS networks Nothing else should be required. TCP/IP Properties:_ Obtain IP address automatically should be the default, unless you need to set it for the router - check the 'Detect connection...' Click on the Identification tab Make sure that the Computer name is less than 12 letters, with no spaces, and unique to that computer The Workgroup Name must be IDENTICAL to that on the other machine(s) on the network (the description can be anything you like) Click on the Access tab allow Share-level access control for the moment.(until you're all set, then you can get complex if you want) Make sure that the other PC is also using TCP/IP as the protocol, and has similar entries. If you have more problems - look here http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/winme.htm http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/guide.htm HTH -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2003, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Henriette C. van de Haar" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed)... > Hi Noel, > > control panel -> network gives me a list of installed components (my > ethernetcard, my isdn-card). > What must I do in order to solve my problem? > > Henriette > > > Noel Paton wrote: > > > Control Panel | Network > > > > > |

How do I detect connection? There is a router between our computers, and I know some IP adresses must maybe be set. I'll leave this to Carey - he's one of the experts on networking -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2003, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Henriette C. van de Haar" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed)... > Hi Noel, > > > Noel Paton wrote: > > > Network Properties | Configuration > > > > The following should be showing > > Client for MS Networks > > <your ethernet card> > > TCP/IP > > File and Printer sharing for MS networks > > > > Nothing else should be required. > > > > TCP/IP Properties:_ > > Obtain IP address automatically should be the default, unless you need to > > set it for the router - check the 'Detect connection...' > > > How do I detect connection?
