Windows ME DUN problems.

After installeing the latest recommended updates of ME
from Microsoft. I have a DUN problem. I can make an
internet connection but none of the apps I use will work.
That is they do not access the internet and time out. I
can work around this by disconnecting and then re-
connecting all works well. A secondary problem but maybe
connected is that I cannot run my firewalll at HIGH
security level anymore. All of the apps do not
connect. ?? I have uninstalled the firewall but this makes
no difference.
