Default W2k Server - 2 NIC's - RASS

Hi All,

You are all my lost hope (after 2 days troubleshouting without succes)

My Situation:
W2k Server with Routing and Remote Access Configered
2 Networkcards with following config:
IP: 192.168.1.4
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

IP: 192.168.2.4
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.1

192.168.1.4 == Is Connected to a Router 192.168.1.1
192.168.2.4 == Is Connected to a Router (AccessPoint) 192.168.2.1

From the Network 192.168.1.x : I can access everything normall but not
Network 192.168.2.x
And the same thing for 192.168.2.x

Can someone explain how RASS needs to be properly setup for my network?

Additional Info:
Output "Route Print" W2k Server

What is with this second gateway? I think that Windows 2000 can only use
a second default gateway for failover.

Is this a router or an access point and how is it connected to the
network? What physical ports are connected to what?

I don't know what setting i need, however the second gateway is based onto
this article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=178993#E0YB0ABAAA

192.168.2.4 is a belkin router configured as a AP, it has 4 network
connections (=switch) and one wan connection, only the network connections
are used.

I don't see where the article says anything about a second gateway.
Perhaps you could quote the passage.

> 192.168.2.4 is a belkin router configured as a AP, it has 4 network
> connections (=switch) and one wan connection, only the network connections

Below I quote you as saying that a RRAS server NIC is configured with
192.168.2.4, so let's resolve that point. You say you are only using LAN
ports on the Belkin, so that is correct. DHCP is disabled on the Belkin?

>>> W2k Server with Routing and Remote Access Configered
>>> 2 Networkcards with following config:
>>> IP: 192.168.1.4
>>> Mask: 255.255.255.0
>>> Gateway: 192.168.1.1
>>>
>>> IP: 192.168.2.4
>>> Mask: 255.255.255.0
>>> Gateway: 192.168.2.1

Let's have a look at some host configurations. Ipconfig/all the server
and any hosts that are not functioning properly. Also, let's have a look
at the routing table from the device at 192.168.1.1.

Default Re: W2k Server - 2 NIC's - RASS

By my count you've got 2 networks and 3 DHCP servers, but I think this issue
is related to routing.

See how the following configuration jives with your network. I hope the
table renders properly.

Legend:
r# indicates a router
0.0 represents the default route
1.0 and 2.0 represent the private networks
* indicates a local network
#.# indicates a gateway to a remote network, except in the case of ip
obviously the first two octets have been removed from all IPs

r1 r2 r2 r3
ip 1.1 1.4 2.4 2.1
0.0 1.1 2.4
1.0 * * 2.4
2.0 1.4 * *

I'm thinking that you are missing the static route on r1. You need to add a
static route to reach 192.168.2.0/24 via 192.168.1.4.

I'll display the host configurations to make it a bit clearer.

r1
ip: 192.168.1.1
static route: 192.168.2.0/24 via 1.4

r2
ip: 192.168.1.4
ip: 192.168.2.4
default gateway: 192.168.1.1

r3
ip: 192.168.2.1
default gateway: 192.168.2.4
