i've got a client who wants to get away from using the standard home use
routers in his business. what's a good commercial router? i've heard the term SOHO and am wondering if it refers to higher end networking products. thanks for any advice. -- Gary Roach ADB Services Gary Roach |

SOHO = Small Office Home Office Before spending the big bucks on a router, determine what your client's routing needs are. You can pay a lot of money for as you call them "commercial" routers. Nut why pay out for options not needed? A google search will result in many options. Or you could browse on over to the cisco site and check out their offerings. |

You should ask him what his needs are. What's his WAN connection, how many
nodes inside does the router need to support. What's the rest of the network like? -jaso "Gary Roach" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:KdwBe.1$(E-Mail Removed)... > i've got a client who wants to get away from using the standard home use > routers in his business. what's a good commercial router? i've heard the > term SOHO and am wondering if it refers to higher end networking products. > thanks for any advice. > > -- > Gary Roach > ADB Services > > |

basically he just wants what most people want from their home routers,
except that it has to work. his employees use e-mail and the web. he uses a vpn to work from home. all the functionality is there on the low end routers but every once in a while they crash and have to be unplugged. also he was a little disillusioned when his brand new linksys router had to have a firmware upgrade just to work properly. I have had success with the Watchguard Router/Firewall www.watchguard.com
It comes with 10 seat license and you can buy higher levels. Also, you can buy MVPN that lets you have Mobile highly encrypted VPN circuits. I have one(SOHO 6Tc) in a Doctor's office that has been running without fault for 178 days. I have another(Firebox) in a business office that has been running for 367 days without needing a reset. So far they have been very reliable. There are many features that are either standard or can be purchased. I subscribed to their support/security updates and usually get 2-3 emails per week letting me know about the latest security flaws found in most major applications and OS's. Every time a new flaw is found they send an email fully describing the flaw and how to protect your network. I am happy with their equipment and I will purchase one for my home as soon as Verizon gets my 15/2 fiber up and running. Take a look at LANCOM systems routers.
They offer good performance for a fair price.
