WRT54G Question

My internet connection was upgraded to 10MBps and the most I can manage from
my router (wireless G setting) is 5MBps. Is this the maximum throughput, or
can it be speed up. I thought G routers were 54MBs, or is this a different
setting? My wireless card is also G (WPC54G), and when the laptop is wired,
I get 10MBps. My speed test point is also pretty reliable.
