Have a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router BEFSR81 V3 Firmware Version: 2.45.5, Sep 15 2003 I am running Windows 98 Second Edition on my computer My ISP, Verison, uses PPPoE. The router is my DHCP server. If the Windows 98 SE system uses DHCP to get its IP address everything works fine. If I hardcode the IP address routing works correctly (I can get to any specific IP by nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn, but if I put in a name I get a host not found message. If I enable DNS on the Windows 98 SE system and put in the IP address that the BEFSR81 is using, then everything works fine. However, if I put in the router's IP address (192.168.1.1) in as the DNS server then no hostname lookup works. So, how can I tell the router to be a DNS server or tell Windows 98 SE to use "whatever the 192.168.1.1 is using" or "whatever the gateway node is using"? |

You are not giving anything specific so. To reach any computer on your local network simply enter: \\YourComputerName\ and hit return. Of course, substitute your computer name above. Should get to the computer w/o problem. If it does not you may want to reset your DSL/Router and try the above. It go with the default settings.
