My ISP allows me 12Gb download usage before speed is dropped to an unusable
20K. I went from 80% usage to 100% usage in 2 days and yesterday upgraded
to the 20G plan. I see this morning that I have used another 1Gb in the
last 24
hours but I don't know what program would be causing this. There are 4
computers on the network and I'm using a Netgear RT314 Router. I've also
looked at the computers my kids use but can't see anything running in the
background at the moment that may cause this.

Does anyone know of any monitoring type software that I could install,
either to look at usage going through the router, or that I could install on
each computer that would tell me the data usage and the program being used
to cause the excess data usage?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Koz

sounds to me like you've got a trojan horse there..... it keeps sending and
recieveing packages, wether you download or not, i had the same problem,
ecxept that i have no download limit, i had a nice statistics list in my pc
, that i downloaded 80 Gb in 14 days !!

at the command prompt type:

"netstat /a"

to see what ip adresses and ports are open

you can also type "msconfig" at the run command of the start menu (WINXP)
and see what programs are starting up with your booting routine

press CTRL + ALT + DEL (WINXP)

and see what programs are running
go to this page to see if your suspiciens(?) are right about a program that
shouldn't be running
