Hello Everybody,
I'm having some trouble with my Red Hat Linux 9 system. Here is the scenario. I'm having NIS, NFS network environment. NIS server is SGI IRIX 6.5. I have added a new Red Hat Linux 9 system. It is connected through NIS. Everybody can see this machine & its shares. I configured Autofs 4.1.2 on this system to access other system's shares on the network. I can see the shares of all Linux systems, but I'm unable to see the share for SGI, HP-UX, & Sun. When I try to access the shares through automount i.e. cd /hosts/<sgi_machine_name>/<share_name> it gives me No such file or directory & when I try to mount the share manually it comes up with the error Permission Denied. But I can access my new systems share from anywhere, even from SGI & all the systems. What could be wrong? Please do let me know what things do I need to do from this system, I guess its a problem with my new Linux system only. thanks & regards, Pranay C. Tembhekar pranay.tembhekar@gmail.com |

Tembhekar On the SGI box, are the filesystems you want exported to the Linux box? Use "/usr/sbin/showmount -e SGIhost" to see what is exported and to which hosts/networks. If the filesystems (they're called "filesystems" in the Linux/Unix world, "shares" in the Windows world) aren't exported to your Linux host, you need to fix that on the SGI/Sun/HP boxes. -- Henry Stilmack, CISSP Email to hps (at) shangri-la (dot) cx Registered Linux User #324965 |

Hello Henry,
thanks for the reply. I'm having no trouble with other RHL 9 systems which is having same Autofs version i.e. 4.1.2. In fact few days back I added one RHL 9 system to my network with Autofs 4.1.2 & its working perfectly, the same I've installed on the new system but its not working, Autofs or mount gives me error for SGI,HP-UX & Sun systems only. I'm quiet amazed with this...!!! thanks, Pranay |
