Default network troubles

hi, i have the following network set up on my comp, and it has lots of
problems...

ADSL \
/ | \
Comp 2 (Win XP)/ | \ Comp 3(Win 98SE)
|
Comp 1 (Win XP)

well, sorry about a crappy disgram. but basically, i have 3 computers, 2 of
which run win XP (home) and one which runs win 98SE, all plugged into the
ADSL Speedtouch, and i want:
All to have internet access
All to be able to see eachother on a network

All of them do have internet access, and using the ping command in the msdos
prompt i can locate all of the computers in my network with eachother. so
everything is physically working.

computer 1 was my first computer, which is sitting next to my speedtouch
modem. it has a network card etc etc.
it can see both comp 2 and comp 3.
comp 2 can see comp 1 and comp 3, but comp 3 cant see anything at all. it
cant even see itself.
they are all in the same workgroup, ive run the win XP setup wizard on the
win 98 PC, ive gone through the trouble shooter several times (that
troubleshooter never fixes anything :\ ) and it still doesnt work.
also, comp 2 (my second xp computer) although it can see comp 3, it cannot
get in. its like there is a firewall blocking it. but i turn all the
firewalls off, also comp 1 can get into comp 3. in my speedtouch modem, i
have configured the DNS to the right workgroup, i have added all my comps IP
addresses along with names, but it still wont work.

.....to make the long message short:

my Windows 98 computer accesses the internet as well as my two windows xp
computers. both of "them" can see "it", but "it" cant see either of "them".

any help greatly appreciated,

James

Default Re: network troubles

thankyou for your help, i have checked
control panel | network and ive got the client, my adapter, tcp/ip protocol,
and file/printer sharing. in the bindings tab on tcp/ip protocol, all were
ticked. yes, my IP addresses are private, and my speedtouch does act as a
router, broadcasting an ip address of its own. it is an alcatel speedtouch
pro. i cant get the error message at the moment (from comp 2 to comp 3)
because it is my brothers computer, it is passworded, and hes sleeping. if i
wake him up there is no way ill get in his computer for a while. i have
checked that the XP firewall to block sharing is off.
the error message says something like:
Error: Unable to Access "computer 3"
make sure you have permission to access this resource.
and i cant remember the rest.

thankyou for any help,
James
