Enable Internet Connection Sharing on the main pc to share the
broadband cable connection, as shown here:

ICS Installation [Win98SE]

Configure the laptop as an ICS client, as shown here:

XP ICS - Client Setup Using the Network Setup Wizard

I recommend contacting your cable company for help with the daily
connection problem.
