Dear all,
My office recently blocked the Yahoo messenger service, which I consider important to myself. Is there anyway to avoid that? I've modifed the "connection preferrence" of the Yahoo messenger, but none of the setup works. Thanks in advance. Hongyu |

Although you might use it and it lives on 'your' desk, its the company's and it runs how the company's IT department sees fit to meet your work related needs. If you need Yahoo to do work thats relevant then speak to the IT department. You probably will find that when you started work there, the IT Acceptable Use Policy you signed said you agreed that you would ahere to the rules which probably state "no Yahoo" effectively. Breaking those rules means your job is on the line. Why do you not tell them you installed non-company approved software and see where that lands you. Yahoo Messenger recently had a bunch of nasty security problems if I recall which probably prompted this by your IT department. If you do not like it change job to a company whos IT AUP is 'liberal' (good luck). If I was you I would count yourself lucky you have not been found out. Uninstall the software and learn to live that life is not an email/usenet/instant message. Cheers Alex |

Oh, and it'll help if you tell them that you'll take full responsability for the results, since by overriding their decision you're also assuming authority. -- Frank Sweetser fs at wpi.edu WPI Network Engineer GPG fingerprint = 6174 1257 129E 0D21 D8D4 E8A3 8E39 29E3 E2E8 8CEC |
