I tried to attach a WLAN USB adaptor to my laptop with
WIN98 installed. It is shown in the System Poperties/Device Manager. However, although the Windows Network Client is defined when starting the system, the window asking for the password does not show up. When entering winipcfg under start/run, the WLAN USB adaptor seems not to exist. Obviously, when starting the system, the WLAN USB adaptor is not recognized (in time?) by all functions. When using a WLAN Cardbus PC-Card, everything is working fine. The pasword window is showing up when starting the system, and winipcfg shows the WLAN PC Card. Doesn't Windows 98 support network adaptors attached to the USB? For clarification, the USB adaptor is working with the printer when attached, as well as with a 6 in 1 card reader. Any ideas how to get this problem solved? Regards, Joachim Joachim Richert |

I finally fixed my problem. Here's what I did, taken from
a hint to a similar problem some days later: Control Panel -> Network Removed the TCP/IP protocol for the USB WLAN adaptor. Restarted the system. Control Panel -> Network Re-added the TCP/IP protocol, while the USB WLAN adaptor was attached to the system. Rebooted the system. .... and it worked. Surprise. >-----Original Message----- >I tried to attach a WLAN USB adaptor to my laptop with >WIN98 installed.
