98 and 2000 and xp network problem, pls help!

I have three computers connect through a router: Windows XP, 2000 and 98.
Now, XP and 2000 can communicate each other
and both can see files on Win98. However, there are two problems:
1) Win98 can communicate with XP but cannot access win2000 (professional),
When tried to connect to win2000, it asks for password, actually, I never
set any password on win2000.
2) Both winxp and win2000 can install a network printer which is on win98,
but cannot print.
3) File transfer from XP and 2000 to 98 always with error that saying "path
is not available".

What's wrong?

1) Create a new user account on the Win2000 computer. Give it the
same user name and password (if any) that you use to log onto Win98.
Then, Win98 will be able to access Win2000 with no password prompt.

2) Without any details, it's hard to say what the problem is. What
make/model of printer is it? Have you installed it as a network
printer on XP and 2000, using the right drivers for each operating
system? What exactly happens when you try to print? If there's an
error message, what is its complete text?

3) Without any details, it's hard to say what the problem is. How are
you trying to transfer files from XP and 2000 to 98? What exactly are
you typing or clicking? Try accessing the 98 computer by typing its
name in the Start | Run box on Xp and 2000 in this form:

1) I did as you said and now can open Win 2000, however, if I work on win 98
box and want to copy file on win 2000 to win 98, I will get the error
something like: "Cannot copy [filename]: the pointed network resource or
device can not be used."

Something happens when working on win 98 and want to copy or transfer file
from winxp to win 98. However, on win 2000 and xp boxes, the file transfer
works fine.

What I need to do further?

2) The printer is Okidata OL600e, which only has driver for win98, that's
why I have to keep a box running win 98 just in order to use the printer. It
works before, but frequently this problem happens and no way to get rid of
it once happened. Sometimes it will work fine right after both systems were
freshly installed. The symptom is on both windows 2000 and xp, the network
printer can be installed, when print a test page, it did show a task on the
printer, but just does not print, and on Windows 2000 and xp, the printer
shown as not available.

What could be the real reason? I cannot run fresh install again and again to
get a chance the printer works.

That's been a big headache for me and for the most part, I've figured it
out.

On the W2K and WXP boxes, create an account that uses a USER and PASS for
an identity that will be on the W98 box. When you create these accounts,
be sure to include a password.

The biggest part of these headaches come when I have to deal with NTFS
partitions. Not only do these Operating Systems require a USER *and*
PASS, but NTFS now needs to have this new user added to the list of
persons permitted to access the files and folders. In the top-level
folder of drive C: (the 'root' of C, get at the Properties page, then
the Security tab. If 'Everyone' isn't listed - and you want to maintain
some sort appearance of security - add just the user you created.

On the W98 box, you MUST create a user with a USER *and* PASS. Nothing
less is going to work. Obviously, these codes must be the same as the
user you created on the W2K and WXP boxes. This is the user you must log
on with when you boot into W98.

That *should* take care of your file transfer problems between W98 and
and those systems that came after it (except for that stupid thing called
WinMe).

To use the printer from Win 2000, you must install a Win 2000 driver
on the Win 2000 computer. To use the printer form Win XP, you must
install a Win XP driver on the Win XP computer.

I just looked on the Okidata web site. Here's what it says:

Windows 2000: There are no drivers available for Windows 2000, but the
printer will work with drivers for the HP LaserJet IIp.

Windows XP: The most current driver for this product is already
included in Windows XP.

To use the printer from Win 2000, you must install a Win 2000 driver

Even though it is on a W98 box, the XP and 2000 machines will need the
correct drivers before they can print to it. You can down load the drivers
from http://my.okidata.com/DSDownWeb.nsf/...600E)?OpenView . Save to a
folder and then go to properties of the printer, click on advanced and
follow the prompts to install the new driver.
