Default Monitoring

Can anyone out there recommend an SNMP monitoring tool that monitors SNMP
OID values and sends an alarm (perhaps an email or page or something) when
the OID value reaches a certain limit ? I would also like something that
monitors network services.

Thanks a lot

Jake

We use Nagios and Cricket where I work. It works pretty well. We use an
old Dell Optiplex with 96MB of RAM and a Pentium 133MHz as our monitoring
server and, aside from being a bit slow on the front-ends, it works fine.

John/Jake(?)-

You may wish to check out a product from my company, Intellinger
Software, called Unified Performance Monitoring (UPM).

The URL is http://www.intellinger.com

An unlimited, operational version is available for free download at the
site, so you can try it out in your environment. The only restriction
is that it will only actively collect a maximum of 25 metrics without a
paid-for license.

It is a monitoring product that collects and alarms SNMP and non-SNMP
data in a distributed fashion. It also allows you to collect customized
data in a very easy manner (outputs from perl scripts, shell scripts,
sql scripts, VB, etc., can be collected and stored). As well, you can
monitor network services, such as SMTP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, DNS, etc., and
provide notification of same. We even use it internally to monitor our
own web site, and keep tabs on the SLA with our provider.

It provides alarm checking and on the data, and alerting on those
metrics that are deemed to be alarmed.

You can review data for up to 2 years, and create custom reports that
allow you to compare very different metrics. For instance, we have some
clients that are monitoring and relating the effect of the number of
users connected into their web sites against their Disk IO and Network
usage.

Should you have any questions regarding this, please don't hesitate to
call us at 604-687-6800 or email us at (E-Mail Removed)

Thanks...
