Default BEFW11S4 and WUSB54GS performance/connection problem

Hi,
I have the following setup BEFW11S4 V2 and WUSB54GS (USB G Speedster
adapter). The problem is that if I change Basic Rate setting on the
router to 11Mbps then adapter keeps flipping between connected at
11Mbps to no connection every 10-20 seconds or so. Switching to 2Mbps
for Basic Rate allows adapter to stay connected but the rate of course
is very low. Signal strenght is always exelent.
Any ideas?
