This is a fresh reinstall of a win98 os. It's connected via a router to a
workgroup. How do I get win98 to recognize/access the router? All hardware is working fine. Router is operational for the other pc's on my peer2peer network. mgm |

Are you getting a valid IP address?

Thank you for responding.. no, the router is the default gateway, and
assigns ip's. tcp/ip is configured for dhcp.. how can I tell if there is a dhcp client service started in 98? Why won't 98 "see" this router like my xp pro and win2k boxes will. also, the pc with the 98 os is a dual boot. the win2k os on another partition has full network and internet access.... I'm stumpted. ?? hmm.. winipcfg only has PPP adapter showing.. is this relevent? the ppp adapter is probably your modem. it appears that your nic isnt being recognized yet. reseat the card in a different pci slot and make sure the correct drivers are loaded |

The NIC is present and "is operating properly" according to Device Manager.
Network dialogue box does show the NIC and tcp/ip for the nic. The only place the NIC isn't recognized is with winipcfg... FINALLY.. (after reseating the nic in a different pci slot) this nic is
present in the winipcfg dialogue box. but still no luck with it being able to access the router. winipcfg "freezes" and quits responding when an attempt to release then to renew. The ip add is an unknown 169.xxx.xxx number??? Is there some config setting I'm missing with this 98 box?
