Default WiFi PDMCIA Adapter for Win 98

I have Win 98 installed on my old laptop. I installed a
new wireless LanReady PCMCIA WiFi 802.11b 2.4G card on my
machine. It came with RealTek 8101 software and
drivers. The card shows on the systray, but there is a
yellow exclamation on the device in the device manager.
the error code is code 2 and says "ndis.vxd and
ntkern.vxd cannot open the driver"...or something to that
effect. I have tried a couple of different drivers, I
have removed all of the other network adapters and then
reinstalled it. Nothing is getting rid of this error,
and hence the card isn't working. Is it possible to use
a WiFi card on win 98...if so, how do I get this
working. (By the way, the wireless network/router is
runing fine and the card works fine on my wife's newer
laptop running win 2000.)

Does the documentation for the WiFi card say that it works with
Windows 98? Most cards require at least Windows 98 Second Edition.

I've used these cards on original Windows 98:

USB: Netgear MA101
Cardbus: Netgear MA401, Microsoft MN-520, SMC2635W

The SMC2635W installation program says that the card won't work, but
it installed and worked successfully in my tests.

According to their web pages, these cards should work on original
Windows 98, too:

USB: Netgear MA111
Cardbus: Orinoco Classic Gold PC Card
PCI: Netgear MA311, Orinoco 11b

Thanks, Steve. Yes, it does say Win 98SE...my mistake.
Luckily I only paid $13 for the card... and it does work
on my wife's laptop. I'll investigate the cards you
mentioned. One other question...is it worth upgrading to
Win 98 SE? It's a really old laptop, and I am wondering
if it is worth it.

thanks,
David
