Default Connecting to local WIFI service provider

Or...what to replace my DSL modem with???

Current setup---2 PC's (hard wired) and a laptop (wireless) connected
to a Linksys WRT54G, which is hard wired to a DSL modem. Linksys is
used to share the connection and for it's hard fire wall, No local
network. Laptop and PC's all have software firewalls, virus protection,
etc...

The local (city) utility will soon be a wireless service provider.
Antennas on the light poles. They are not going to provide or sell any
user end equipment. What I would like to do is keep the computers
behind the Linksys and connect the linksys to ??? something that will
connect to the city service. Does that make sense???

I'm still learning this WIFI (stuff) so a WIFI for dummy’s type of
explanation would be appreciated.

Thanks
