PCI ethernet driver

I am having problems in trying to reinstall my ethernet
driver. i try to install and the message keeps on coming
back saying to shut your machine down and then
reinstalling. please help

Restart in safe mode and in Device Mgr delete/uninstall any instances of
this card, including any relevant files in Windows\Inf\Other, if any.
Shut down and remove card.
Reboot in safe mode and see that there still aren't any mentions there of.
Reboot normally.
Shut down and reinstall card.
