So, we purchased a D-Link wireless router w/ NAT, because we are going
to share our DSL with a neighbor. She bought a Belkin 802.11g PCI card for her XP box. It saw our network, we ironed out the security, and she was able to use the network. For a while anyway. The connection is very intermittent. The signal strength is always either good or excellent, it's just that she can't browse. Pinging the DNS is about 30 mSec when good, and 600 mSec (50% loss) when bad. We were on a cell phone when the signal was good, and it went bad when the cell phone hung up. No microwaves or cordless phones were in use close by. Nothing along these lines at all. So, I thought I'd send this problem out for public comment. Any thoughts as to why her connection is so sporadic? Thanks. -Dave David Hampson |

You may want to download the driver for the card and install and configure it using the Device Manager. That kind of makes things stable. You may not want to use the card's utility to do anything not even show the cards signal strength, which can be enable on the NIC's Property screen *show icon when connected* and it will show the connection icon in the job tray with signal strength when the icon is mouse-ed over.
