Default Getting around @home IP limits

I have been using 3 windows 98se computers networked with a 4-port Netgear
Hub (DS104). Everything is gravy with that config.

I just bought a laptop, also with 98se, and am running into problems with
@home's 3-IP/household limit.

So, I grabbed a Netgear 4-port Websafe Router and plugged my cable modem
into it. I plugged two pcs into that, and then used the 4th port to
daisy-chain to the hub, into which I plugged the 3rd pc and the new laptop.

I can still only get 3 computers online, and what's even stranger, is that
if I can only get connected at all using external ips. ie, if I push the
uplink button on the router (I can't remember if it's to on or off) and then
release/renew the IPs so that they're internal (192...) I can not connect to
the internet at all. If I switch it the other way and release renew so that
the IPs are external (24....) then I can connect just fine.

Does anyone have any experience with this? How can I get all 4 pcs online
through @home Cable with my current hardware of 4 Win98se PCs, a netgear
4-port websafe router, and a netgear 4-port hub?

I think that you've connected the cable modem to the wrong router
port. Connect it to the WAN (Internet) port, not to a LAN port.

Are you paying an extra monthly fee for the 2nd and 3rd IP addresses?
If so, you can cancel them and save money.

This is not a Windows limitation, it's an @home limitation. You need a
router, not a hub or switch, if you want more than three computers to access
the Internet at once.

I bought a new Netgear wireless router and now have 4 computers happily
surfing the internet on @home. Wireless is the bomb... nothing like reading
Fark while taking a shit lol.
