I have the same setup as you and have noticed some inconsistencies in
performance as well. Sometimes the signal strength will suddenly drop below 50% even though it normally hovers around 60% (the AP is quite far away, up a floor and through several walls). After changing channels on the AP a few times the signal usually comes back up. It could be interference with a neighbours 2.4Ghz phone or something else in our house... or it may just be that the AP needed a reset (which happens when you change channels). Whatever it was, it seemed to fix that problem. Beyond that, it seems a bit strange that you only have 96% link quality. With my signal strength at 60% I consistently have 100% link quality. So there may be some interference / environmental factors at play that are causing your issues.
