There are *HUNDREDS* of people who are reporting the same exact issues with the BEFW11S4 v4 router/WAP combo units. They don't work at all, for sustained data transfers. If you use more than one OS behind the BEF, it will drop out within about 20-30 seconds, most of the time MUCH earlier. I have one of these units, and it's HORRIBLE. I can't get more than 200-300k through it before it just stops transmitting. Firmware updates don't help, but I'll bet replacing it with an equivalent Netgear or D-Link would. Linksys doesn't seem interested in fixing the problem, and apparently it gets worse and worse if you have more than one machine behind it, especially if those machines are Linux or FreeBSD. But if this other unit is such a "dog" why not take it back to the retailer for a refund under the sale of goods act?.. -- Tony Sayer |

Just got my BEFW11S4 yesterday. Set it up with no problem. Two pc's running direct into the router- no problem. One wireless laptop- no problem. All accessing the cable modem- no problem. Then I'm having trouble with online games on one of the pc's running direct. Problem. All three pc's lose connectivity to the internet for several minutes at a time, sporadically throughout the day. Problem. Yep, the tech did as you described: Had me reset the MTU settings and when that didn't help, he said it may be defective. We verified that all security settings were up to speed, so it's not anyone messing around in the background. How can they sell these with a clear conscience? Does anyone have any 'fix' they've used successfully on this hardware? -- -Bill ------ "John Doe" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news (E-Mail Removed)...> On Mon, 23 Jun 2003 06:43:29 -0700, Colin Whipple wrote: > > > I have had one for a month, with no problems. > > Version 4, I doubt it, because Linksys themselves has admitted that the > entire production line is defective, at the chip level, and they are > unable to work around it with firmware. > > If you do, you should send it back to Linksys for analysis, because yours > would be THE ONLY ONE EVER MADE, which does not exhibit the dropoff and > disconnection problems that thousands of people are now reporting with v4 > of the BEFW11S4 model. The only fix that has worked so far is to buy from a different vendor. I'm not kidding. Check out the epinions on this model, and search dslreports for the same model.. see how many HUNDREDS of users are all reporting the same exact failures. |
