Although it might prove harder to shape, what about some 1/4" wire mesh
that you could mould over your former?

mmmm, I could always learn to weld, can't be that much harder than soldering,
just a little bit hotter

I'd like to be able to weld ally, tricky to get right I'm told as the aluminum
melts away from where you want it to stay.

Welding ally is very tricky and skilful from the bits we've had done.

Careful welding galvanized material... Do it on a breezy day.
