this is driving me nuts. I have a desktop with an ethernet connection to the
livebox, and I have a laptop connected with the wirelss adapter. I am now trying to connect another laptop that is wireless enabled to the system, and no matter how I try I can't get it working. The laptop had the following message "acquiring network address". Someone said to manuaaly assign the IP adrres in the TCP protocol, that connected me to the livebox but then i couldn't get on the internet through Explorer, so I have reversed that. Any help gratefully appreciated nigel h NIGEL Hemingway |

If you don't have a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server running on your network, it'll fall over at this step. > Someone said to manuaaly assign the IP adrres in the TCP protocol, that > connected me to the livebox but then i couldn't get on the internet through > Explorer, so I have reversed that. When you configure a static IP address, you'll be asked for the following: IP Address: Match this to your current numbering scheme, i.e. 10.0.0.11 or 192.168.5.12. Subnet Mask: For most home networks this should be 255.255.255.0. Default Gateway: Put the IP of your router in here. Preferred DNS Server: Either put your ISPs DNS server IP in here, or the address of your router if it supports DNS caching. That should get you connected with Internet access working fine. -- -Gareth Halfacree http://gareth.halfacree.co.uk |

Does the desktop have wireless and wired being used to connect to other things, is it then using Internet connection sharing to access a broadband link ? are the wireless and wired adaptors bridged, what are the IP addresses of each item currently.
