Seconded...after a while you'll idly wonder to yourself how you found it
difficult.

Maplin sell a variety of RJ45 connector which includes a simple and
effective guide system. Unfortunately they cost four or five times as much
as ordinary ones, so the best advice is practice as already advised.

Thirded - plus the use of a little magnifying glass that you get on the end
of a Swiss Army knife to check it before you crimp.

Cheers, Mike

If you're only crimping a few every now and then, they are well worth
the money. I bought some by accident when I ran out whilst on an
emergency job one Sunday and they do make life really easy. I generally
buy pre-certified patches by the hundred though, saves all the trouble
of fiddling with plugs and you get to blame somebody else if it doesn't
work.

I find that inserting is the easy part. The bit that always trips me up is
actually cutting the sheath without cutting the wires. Also the wires
always want to bend in the opposite direction to how they're supposed to.
