Here once again the RSPB CONservation hooligans have slaughtered
wildlife without any real justification. In their quest for a genetically pure British Isles the RSPB have slaughtered or ordered the slaughter of millions of animals ranging from the ruddy duck to wild deer. The RSPB are trying to do to wildlife, what the nazis failed to do to Europe. They are conning it's members who think they donate to "protect" wildlife, the taxpayer whilst getting fat on corporate perks, the CEO rakes in £100,000 per annum in wages alone. see http://tinyurl.com/yu77w http://tinyurl.com/ysd2y and a newspaper article. http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/15686-print.shtml Fears for fate of rare feral goats STEPHEN STEWART May 10 2004 THE future of the feral goat, one of Britain's rarest and oldest breeds, is under threat after a cull on Loch Lomondside, campaigners warned yesterday. A research group examining the origin, history and current status of British feral goat herds said officials from RSPB (Scotland) had carried out a cull at Inversnaid, a nature reserve and site of special scientific interest, (SSSI), on the east shore of the loch. The RSPB culled 14 animals recently, but claimed it was adhering to management guidelines about the control of the population. Tracy Livingstone, Scottish area representative of the British Feral Goat Research Group, said numbers of feral goats had fallen from about 4000 in 1993 to fewer than 400 today in Scotland. "The Inversnaid goat management plan states that there should at all times be 30 to 50 animals (in the area) but we believe the population has dropped below 30," she said. "The RSPB has said it has 27 goats but we doubt those figures and intend to carry out a census. "If this population is subject to a review and this has been altered, then the review should be circulated for all to see. "At the end of the management plan there is an emphasis on consulting and liaising with people but this is not happening," she added. "The RSPB has said the goats are damaging trees, but the numbers of animals and the land size shows that the population is not detrimental. "We cannot see any justification for that number (culled), not doubting the fact that there is large herbivore and goat damage to trees – including damage by sheep, deer, bark stripping and browsing of seedlings, which may prevent regeneration." Mike Trubridge, area reserve officer at Inversnaid, said that the last cull had destroyed 14 animals, but numbers were still within agreed management guidelines. "In 1986, we acquired a number of goats on the reserve. We have a statutory obligation to manage the site and have to regulate the control of both goats and deer," he said. "People must get their facts straight. We conduct regular counts of the goats, and last month there were 27 adults and five kids. This gives us 32 animals, which is still within the recommendations." However, Ms Livingstone said that the threat to the regeneration of woodland, which was the main reason behind the cull, was not down to goats. She said: "Goats eat trees, although they mainly use trees for shelter. It is futile for us to suggest they won't damage trees but if they have traditional kidding and shelter areas in the trees it means that the damage will be localised. "Only by knowing the extent of the damage in relation to goat numbers can you justify a certain population size. "At present, the culling policy seems to be reactive and based on limited knowledge. In fairness, hardly anybody has the type of information they require, so then why did they not contact us when we offered? "RSPB has not justified why a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 50 goats (has been imposed)." Ms Livingstone said that there were some 2.4 goats per hectare at Inversnaid, over an area of 90 hectares of woodland and 284 hectares of moorland. She said the population was tiny and had no major detrimental effect on habitat but provided an ancient base of animal that locals and visitors go there to see. The feral goat is said to be the breed that was brought to Britain by the first farmers, and was kept by the builders of Stonehenge, before changing hands constantly during the Anglo-Saxon invasion and Viking raidings. .. ************************************************** *********************************** Yes, madam, I am drunk. In their quest for a That's certainly mean and awful. Make sure the P.O.W.s don't have women's panties over their head. Double check to make sure that none have to wear a hood over their heads with electric wires simulating electric shock And don't let them stay naked very long or you'll create an international incident where everybody calls us meanies and evil. |
