Default router without modem connected

A couple of questions if you have the time.

Can I still use a 4 port router as a hub without having a cable modem
connected? This is for 2 PC's that may grow to more.

Now this one is a bit more complicated.
Lets say I get BB installed using BY self install kit and have this
hooked up to a PC. Could I then use a USB wireless access point
connected to the PC to give a laptop with a wireless card access for
file and net sharing?

Thanks
Mark.

1) Yes.
2) Yes but it'd be a USB Wifi NIC using Adhoc which isn't reliable and
also needs the main PC turned on.

If you're not on somebody's shit list, you're not doing anything
worthwhile.
