I have noticed recently that when I come to my computer after a while,
sometimes my ADSL modem/router has been disconnected from the ISP... I have to go in and manually connect it to the internet again. Should my ADSL be always on, or is this commonplace and normal (to get disconnected). Tom Tom |

My parents' experience with ADSL is that very occasionally their ADSL modem/router disconnects and needs to be manually reset. Whether it disconnects after being idle for a while and then *normally* reconnects automatically and invisibly, I'm not sure. I'll check the router's up-time next time I'm home: if this is longer than the normal idle time (eg overnight) then I'd say that it's not normal for ADSL to disconnect when idle, and that it should be "always on". |

Isn't there a 'keep connected' type setting in the modem / router Tom? All the best .. T i m |
