If you want to connect the two simultaneously you'd be best off using a router. Have a look here for guidance: http://www.networklab.co.uk/cmodem/ -- BRG === http://www.brgservices.co.uk/ |

Further to BRG's reply, you have to choose whether to use the USB or ethernet port on the modem; you can't use both. I have a Belkin 4-port DSL/cable router which was dead easy to set up. To avoid tinkering with the PCs which have only USB ports I used USB to ethernet adapters (D-Link). -- Jock Mackirdy Bedford |

I guess i would need a crossover cable between the switch and modem yes? Thanks again Alan |

Most modems and half decent hubs are auto sensing so you can use either. I haven't fitted a crossover cable to anything for years! -- SJW A.C.S. Ltd. |

AFAIK a switch won't allow you to access the modem from two PCs at the same time. You need a router (which also has the benefit of a hardware firewall). -- Jock Mackirdy Bedford |

A router typically incorporates a switch and even a wireless access point, but a switch on its own wouldn't be enough. -- BRG === http://www.brgservices.co.uk/ |

Yes, but you can't just connect a modem to a switch - you have to connect it to a router. deKay -- + Lofi Gaming - www.lofi-gaming.org.uk AC: deKay in Sponge |- ugvm Magazine - www.ugvm.org.uk Gamertag: deKay 01 |- My computer runs at 3.5MHz and I'm proud of that |- "I'M IN THE GROOVY GANG" |

You can only have one device connected to the cable modem and it must either be the USB *or* Ethernet connection. You could set-up a LAN for connecting multiple computers to your broadband connection. If you need some help or advice visit the forums at www.cm-forums.co.uk Regards Bill |

You need to install a router if you want more than one PC to access your broadband connection. Regards Bill |
