Alright peeps,
Following on from the running cables under floors thread I have a few questions about cables in walls. How deep should you chase the wall. Is plaster depth good enough or should you really go deeper? ie: into brick. How far away from other cables and pipes one should your have your Cat5e? Does having the cable in the walls degrade the performance? Britman Clan - http://www.alphasiege.co.uk --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Depends how thick your plaster is - you probably want a quarter inch of plaster over the conduit to prevent cracking in the future although you might get away with less. Remember you should only run horizontally or vertically, and cat5 doesn't like sharp bends. I guess you could get away with laying the cable bare, as it's not really a safety issue, in which case you'll need a smaller chase, but it's not recommended. > How far away from other cables and pipes one should your have your Cat5e? Minimum six inches from power cables, preferably more if they're running parallel for any distance. > Does having the cable in the walls degrade the performance? It shouldn't make any difference (until you stick a nail through it when you're hanging a picture). |
