Argh, Microsoft you did it again!
I got burned once installing a Windows Update, now this broadband update. The menu "Management Tool" is disabled. I'm connected directly to the broadband station. My laptop used to lose connection to the base station every couple of days. Then I had to go in the management tool and modify the password, and go on my laptop and do the same. Then magic, it works again. Now, I can't go in the management tool thing anymore. Help Thanks. Anonymous |

Use IE and go to 192.168.2.1 to change the settings. Many
of us just don't use the MBNU -- the MBNU is not needed to run the network. BTW, you shouldn't lose connection every few days... Something is probably misconfigured. Check if the problem occurs at same frequency as the lease time in the LAN screen of the router -- If that's the case, increase the lease length, or assign a static IP to the laptop. >-----Original Message----- >Argh, Microsoft you did it again! > >I got burned once installing a Windows Update, now this broadband update. > >The menu "Management Tool" is disabled. Enter http://192.168.2.1 on the address line. You will get the Management Tool. Drag the Url in the Address window to the desktop. A shortcut will be created. Rename it Broadband Management Tool. Put it wherever you want to on the Start Menu(or leave it on the desktop). Forget the Broadband Utility. Every function it has can be gotten better or faster some other way. This is for all computers: XP, ME, 98x, Wired or Wireless. I don't even install it any more if I can help it. By the way, in 99.4% of Broadband Utility installations, the Management Tool is unaccessible. Nobody seems to know why. But nobody cares because it is quicker to use http://192.168.2.1. Newer versions of the BNU check to see if there is an MN-700 (or MN-500 or
MN-100) on your network before enabling the link to the Management Tool. It takes a few seconds to do this check, during which time the link is not available. If you do have an MN-700 and the link consistently doesn't appear, it is likely that you have a firewall other than the new Windows Firewall in SP2 turned on. An easy way to tell if this is the problem is to use BNU-->Help-->About. If it does not list the MN-700's firmware version numbers, BNU was unable to detect an MN-700. The only reason we have found for the detection to fail consistently is firewall software blocking the communication. While some people choose to not install the BBN software, many people find it very helpful and if you have a computer that does not have Windows XP and you have a BBN network adapter, you will need to install the software to be able to configure the settings of the adapter. -- Neel Malik Program Manager Microsoft Corporation This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
