I have a sony Vaio Model PCG-FXA36 laptop. Its cardbus
Controller is a Texas Instruments PCI-1420. When I plug the Mn-520 into my laptop nothing happens. I paid $19.95 for live sony support only to be told that there is a problem with the mn-520 itself. I don't believe this to be true becaus i've plugged it into an older model Dell and HP laptop and both of them pick it up right away. I need to know if I should not have bought this, but based on the system requirements it should work in my laptop. Matt |

Matt, I'd take a look first in Device Manager to see what networking devices
are on the system. If you have the normal 1394 Net Adapter and a Ethernet NIC showing only, I'd right-click those, select Properties and then Disable. This doesn't remove them from the machine, only keeps them from being part of the picture. Then go into Control Panel/Add Hardware and add the MN-520 manually, since it apparently isn't being picked up. -- Chris H. Is that a 32-bit PCMCIA slot you are using.

I did ty that suggestion, but it still doesn't work. I
am still trying to figure out if this product is compatible with my laptop >-----Original Message----- >Matt, I'd take a look first in Device Manager to see what networking devices >are on the system. It should be fine, Matt. Have you contacted Sony support for information
from them? Perhaps they've got a cardbus update on their web site? -- Chris H. I have two Sony Vaio laptops here (older models), and the
MN520 works fine with both of them. Is the card slot enabled? On my older Vaios, the slots can be disabled on the Vaio control panel. I wouldn't pay much attention to Sony support -- it's just not very helpful. >-----Original Message----- >I did ty that suggestion, but it still doesn't work. How would I find that out?

I uninstalled them and restarted the computer. The
computer didn't say found new hardware, but when I opened up the device manager both of the slots were reinstalled and enabled. I am in the process of trying to communicate with Texas Instruments, but they also want to pass the buck as to where the problem is. PCI bus 0, device 10, function 0 PCI bus 0, device 10, function 1 when i click properties on each of them this is the location where they are found. the zero after pci bus intrigues me, I would think it would be at least a one. Thers is also an option in the properties to scan for hardware changes. I do this when I stick the adapter in the slot but it still doesn't do anything. >-----Original Message----- >I have two Sony Vaio laptops here (older models), and the >MN520 works fine with both of them. > >Is the card slot enabled? Sorry, mine are using RICOH hardware -- not a big help
here. Have you gotten any card working before on the Sony laptop? More often is a configuration problem, but could be a hardware problem -- and I'm afraid that the appropriate people for addressing an hardware issue (if there is one) is Sony, not TI. >-----Original Message----- >I uninstalled them and restarted the computer.
