Default wireless xbox and belkin router!!???

I've got a Belkin combined wireless router/modem and I'm
trying to connect my (new) wireless xbox adapter.
Unfortunately when I set up it says no network detected.
The signal strength is not a prob (they are seperated by
about 12"). I have selected infrastructure and the name
of the network is belkin54g (I think it is the default
name). Also, the encryption key is correct any techno
gods out ther able to help?

George

ps all other settings are auto

Are you running WPA encryption on the Belkin, George? If so, the MN-740
does only up to WEP. You will need to change from WPA. Support is here:

Just checked the router and I'm using 128-bit WEP. Also
noted that when I chose infrastructure the channel option
greyes out. Then when I check the list its says (xbox)
belkin54g on channel 1 but just checked router and it
says channel 11. If I change the channel on the router to
use 1 do you think that will sort it?

The channel is only used when you want to connect 2 consoles for wireless
system link. When you want your adapter to connect to your router you MUST
leave it on INFRASTRUCTURE.

Also, since your adapter is new you probably have not upgraded the firmware
version; if you haven't you need to broadcast your SSID or the MN-740 won't
recognize the network. The newer firmware fixes this, but you need to
connect first, check if you are broadcasting your SSID, if not, enable
broadcasting.

The MN-740 does support 128-WEP, you may want to disable for the sake of
testing if you get a connection or not and then try to enable it later.
