Is it advisable (or even possible) to set up multiple
Access Points within the house to create better coverage? I do have CAT-5 from there to my wiring closet... I have one MN-520 that is currently in use and I wondered if I could/should set up an old Linksys AP in the back/upstairs part of the house for better coverage up there. Any thoughts? I ask this because I often use a PocketPC with integrated 802.11b throughout the house... Thanks, bob Bob |

when using the same SSID, are you assuming that the IP address of each
Access Point is different? and when using the same SSID, would wireless devices automatically connect to the Access Point with the strongest signal? I have 3 access points in my home (upstairs, downstairs and family room) and sharing the same SSID seems like a good idea. what are the drawbacks to such a setup. thanks in advance for responding to my questions. <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:13f6a01c3f814$ad1cdc50$(E-Mail Removed)... > YEP. Yes, use the same SSID on all AP's and different IP's. Devices will connect
to which ever one it can. Also if you are using WEP, then make the WEP key the same on all AP's. Yes, there are drawbacks; first and foremost, they must be connected via wire. There are other ways to do what you are asking, but none without purchasing more equipment. ![]() Brian W "d cortez" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:%23JylDzC%(E-Mail Removed)... > when using the same SSID, are you assuming that the IP address of each > Access Point is different? and when using the same SSID, would wireless > devices automatically connect to the Access Point with the strongest signal? > I have 3 access points in my home (upstairs, downstairs and family room) and > sharing the same SSID seems like a good idea. what are the drawbacks to > such a setup. > > thanks in advance for responding to my questions. > > <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message > news:13f6a01c3f814$ad1cdc50$(E-Mail Removed)... > > YEP.
