Hello,
I have a MN500 base station that worked well for my DSL broadband. I've recently moved and I now have cable broadband service to my house. The broadband works very well with the cable modem plugged into my computer through an ethernet cable. I'm trying to set up my base station using my new service and I get all the way to the point where setup tries to configure my base station. Setup tries to tell me that I need to disable a firewall or other internet security software. I'm running WindowsXP Pro, and I've checked for firewalls and they're completely disabled. I have no other security software running at all so I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I called the cable company and they needed to switch the MAC address they had from the computer to the base station's MAC address, but even after that was switched, I still had the same problem trying to set up the base station. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you, Jan Jan Blood |

There are tons of problems with the setup CD provided
with the router, especially at the "program base station" point. After you have the initial MS base station management tool installed (before it programs your base station with the wizard), you can exit out of the program installation, open up a browser window to http://192.168.2.1 and login to your base station to program it manually from there. P.S... Default password is 'admin' I hope this helps out. -Shane >-----Original Message----- >Hello, >I have a MN500 base station that worked well for my DSL >broadband. Thanks for your reply; the base station management tool
installs fine (it installs before the configuration of the base station). I can change settings to whatever I want in it, but I can't get an Internet connection through it, even after resetting the base station. Any ideas? First bypass your router and connect directly to your
cable modem to see if your inet works there. Also sometimes after you connect your router, you must reset your cable modem to properly find/use your router. Then reconnect everything, check that DHCP is working on the router, (either look at the client list in the Base Station Management tool or type ipconfig at the command prompt) to see if you have an internal address. (of course make sure your network adapter settings on your computer is set to obtain an IP automatically. Then if that doesnt work, double check your gateway/DNS settings in your Management tool to see if they match your ISP's settings. Those are the basic steps to follow.. lemme know if you've tried all these and it still doesnt work! Also what operating system are you using? Good luck! Thanks for your reply;
I'm running WinXP Pro. My cable modem connected directly to my computer works perfectly - I get the Internet. Apparently, the way my ISP works is, they have to know the MAC address of the device that's connecting to the internet. So when I hook up the base station, they need the MAC address of that. I can call up the ISP, and they can detect the MAC address of the base station and they change their system to accept its connection. Previously, my attempts to then configure the base station have met with failure. I haven't tried resetting the cable modem at all after I hook it up to the base station - I'll try that. I'll also try your other suggestions - do you have any more? Thanks, Jan >-----Original Message----- >First bypass your router and connect directly to your >cable modem to see if your inet works there. > >Also sometimes after you connect your router, you must >reset your cable modem to properly find/use your router. > >Then reconnect everything, check that DHCP is working on >the router, (either look at the client list in the Base >Station Management tool or type ipconfig at the command >prompt) to see if you have an internal address.
