When is MS going to have a software update available for
this unit that will add WPA security options. You seem to be behind in releasing updates. Linksys, Atheros, D-Link abd Netgear all have WPA security updates available for their existing hardware. Tom @ Hewlett Packard |

What type of update and options are you looking for, Tom?

What exactly are you looking for? The MN-700 supports WPA-PSK out of the
box. Tom @ Hewlett Packard wrote: > When is MS going to have a software update available for > this unit that will add WPA security options. > > You seem to be behind in releasing updates. Barb,
Please look again... The base station supports 256-bit WPA-PSK BUT MN720 card does not support it in firmware. Tom may have misstated the issue, but there it is. I just recently ran into just that problem -- after setting the base station to 256 bit I discovered that Microsoft's own card doesn't implement WPA in firmware and I just bought the darn thing. WPA-PSK is supported if you have Windows XP and have applied the updates for
WPA-PSK *AND* if you use Windows XP's native Wireless Zero Configuration to configure the wireless properties and DO NOT USE THE WIZARD UTILITY. For other operating systems, you may have some luck with third party WPA Supplicants. Robert Cohen wrote: > Barb, > Please look again... I have been able to set up WPA security using the MN-700
and PCs with Windows XP and the WPA update. There seems, however, to be a problem with my set-up. If I reboot my computer, I can't reconnect to the MN-700 and the Microsoft Broadband Network Utility states that the security key is invalid (even though it worked fine before the reboot). Retyping the pass-phrase doesn't solve the problem, but rebooting the MN-700 does. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks, Sean >-----Original Message----- >WPA-PSK is supported if you have Windows XP and have applied the updates for >WPA-PSK *AND* if you use Windows XP's native Wireless Zero Configuration to >configure the wireless properties and DO NOT USE THE WIZARD UTILITY. > >For other operating systems, you may have some luck with third party WPA >Supplicants. > >Robert Cohen wrote: >> Barb, >> Please look again... I am having the same issues as everyone here. I have a MN-700 base
station with a MN-720 in my laptop and an MN-730 in my second desktop. The initial connections to the base station using 256bit WPA-PSK worked great with the laptop for about a week. Then just yesterday I added a card to my second desktop and the "Incorrect Security Key" message would show up after I either logged off or rebooted either of the machines. The other machine would still be able to connect and work just fine, but once it was logged of or rebooted the same issue would occur. The only remedy was to reboot the MN-700 which would then immediately allow either the MN-720 or the MN-730 to connect to it. In my network it seems to be fine as long as you only have one wireless client connected to the base station. I guess the 253 client claim is a little exaggerated. The same issue occurs when using WEP in either 64 or 128 bit modes. I know this because I talked to Microsoft tech support and they saw this. BTW the MS tech support in India sucks!!! I do have an SRX# from them and it is being escalated supposedly. A higher tech guy will be with me in 2 business days. That is complete BS. I returned the MN-700 to BestBuy and they gave me the exact same one, since it cannot be returned, as I sent in the Microsoft Wireless World Promotion mail-in rebate. I thought it may be the MN-700 being defective, but my "new" one behaves exactly the same. Base station is running 2.00.08.0333 firmware and boot code. The latest I have been told by MS. I don't know how this thing got WI-FI certified. Open message to Microsoft... FIX THIS ISSUE NOW OR GIVE US ALL REFUNDS AND STOP SELLING IT UNTIL YOU CORRECT THIS. An unsecured AP is not acceptable. That's interesting. It took me awhile to sort it out but it does work. The interface is a littly wonky and would best be more 'automagic' so the average (even geeky) user doesn't have to do anything but say STRONGER and paste in a passphrase. It will evolve.. They are giving refunds. Simply call as the tech guy in india for the 1-800 number to get your refund. Mine is on it's way. Thanks Dee,
Could you post the proper 1-800 number here. I have been shuffled around Indian support for over an hour now and no one seems to have any idea what you are talking about. Wipro support is the absolute worst I have ever used. I will never buy MS gear again because of this. They never called me back as promised at the scheduled time either. Looking at people having this issue as far back as October 2003 it seems they are not going to solve it any time soon. I would really appreciate the number if you could. I am sure lots of others would too. Thanks, Jaime "Dee Dubya" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:<13f3301c3f989$aa3a0230$(E-Mail Removed)>... > Jaime, > > They are giving refunds.
