I have a WinXP Pro machine with DSL setup with the MN500
bASE sTATION (PLUGGED DIRECTLY into the PC). I have a separate WinME machine with 756MB ram, with the MN510 USB adapter. On the WinME machine, I practically have to hit Ctl-Alt- Del and kill "explorer.exe" every time I want to do something because it continually hangs. I can't open My COmputer without getting into task manager and end-tasking, can't get into Control Panel, can'tget into Printers... you get the idea. I'm pretty disgusted with this at this point. Anyone have any ideas that might help? I built this machine fresh before installing the USB adapter (reformatted hard drive, fresh install of WinME, etc.) (please don't ask the obvious question of why I am using WinME at all. I need to have various OS'es setup for testing purposes. THanks.) Regards, - M Max |

You might try restricting Windows ME to only 512 MB of RAM. If you use
more then that in Windows ME it usually becomes unstable. You can do this by running "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) | Clicking on the advanced button | put a check in "Limit memory" | and set it to 512 MB | click OK twice | and reboot. Windows ME should now be more stable. No, it wasn't the memory.
I spent a couple hours on tech support phone call to no avail. I ended up uninstalling WinME, reformatting, and installing Win98 as a test. I was able to duplicate the problem, but I did discover this: it would work fine until I was told of new updates avaialble. If I installed the new updates, I could no longer access anything without having to kill explorer.exe again. Sop I uninstalled the adapter, and reinstalled and UNCHECKED the auto search for updates and so far so good - though it bugs me not being able to get the latest patches. Also, I seem to have problems with file downlaods being corrupt on the satellite mnachine. Very tempted to return this stuff while I still can. - Max >-----Original Message----- >You might try restricting Windows ME to only 512 MB of RAM.
