Hi, Gurus,
Please can I have some guidance: I have a bog standard PC, which does not have a network card, running Windows XP, with broadband, and I also have a Pocket PC with Wi-Fi enabled. The broadband connection comes through USB (ie. the modem is attached to the PC by USB) I would like to be able to use my Pocket PC wirelessly in the house, to synchronise with the PC, print documents, and also to surf the net, and do e-mails etc. All the ADSL wireless routers I have seen are connected to the PC via a network connection - are there any out there that can be connected through USB? Is there another solution to my problem without getting a network card for the PC? Thanks in anticipation! Cheers, Ed Rugbytrader |

In your situation, you need to use Internet Connection Sharing from the
computer to which the USB modem is connected, with a NIC feeding out to either a true access point or something like the Microsoft base stations in access point mode. If you can relate your setup to this Knowledge Base article on setting up satellite, I think you'll see the picture: http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=MSbbn It goes something like this: USB Modem --> main computer ICS on main computer, sharing connection out via NIC --> base station as access point. Access point shares wireless signal --> LAN computers (including Pocket PC). The drawback with having a USB modem is the computer sharing the DSL via ICS must always be on when you want LAN connections. -- Chris H. Hi, Chris, Thanks for your reply.
I think I know where you're coming from, but is there any piece of hardware that would act as a USB modem and a wireless router, all in one. I have seen, and even bought, a wireless modem router which would have been perfect, but it had a network port output rather than a USB output like the modem I have now. Is there such a thing with a USB output?
