Default Simple Question

Hi, Gurus,
Please can I have some guidance:
I have a bog standard PC, which does not have a network card, running
Windows XP, with broadband, and I also have a Pocket PC with Wi-Fi enabled.
The broadband connection comes through USB (ie. the modem is attached to the
PC by USB)
I would like to be able to use my Pocket PC wirelessly in the house, to
synchronise with the PC, print documents, and also to surf the net, and do
e-mails etc.
All the ADSL wireless routers I have seen are connected to the PC via a
network connection - are there any out there that can be connected through
USB?
Is there another solution to my problem without getting a network card for
the PC?
Thanks in anticipation!
Cheers,
Ed

In your situation, you need to use Internet Connection Sharing from the
computer to which the USB modem is connected, with a NIC feeding out to
either a true access point or something like the Microsoft base stations in
access point mode. If you can relate your setup to this Knowledge Base
article on setting up satellite, I think you'll see the picture:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=MSbbn

It goes something like this:
USB Modem --> main computer
ICS on main computer, sharing connection out via NIC --> base station as
access point.
Access point shares wireless signal --> LAN computers (including Pocket PC).

The drawback with having a USB modem is the computer sharing the DSL via ICS
must always be on when you want LAN connections.

Hi, Chris, Thanks for your reply.
I think I know where you're coming from, but is there any piece of hardware
that would act as a USB modem and a wireless router, all in one. I have
seen, and even bought, a wireless modem router which would have been
perfect, but it had a network port output rather than a USB output like the
modem I have now. Is there such a thing with a USB output?
Cheers,
Ed
