Wireless clients need no ports -- you can connect as many as you want ( actually 252 -- the number of wired clients as a class C address space with only 255 possible entries is used -- but I suspect that is way more than any current home network will have). There are only 4 wired ports -- to have more wired computers the easiest way is probably to use a hub. -- Brian Sullivan Meeting by Wire ( http://www.meetingbywire.com) ------------ Is your PC protected? -- http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/default.asp |

I thought the limit for a Class C IP address was 254 devices, & since the router only takes one IP address 253 IP address using devices. Yes correct -- 0,1( for the router) and 255 not used out of 256 - leaving 253 -- was thinking only 255 available -- my mistake. Doesn't affect materially the answer though. > > Brian Sullivan MVP wrote: >> Ron wrote: >> >>> How can I add more clients to the wireless network when >>> there are only 4 ports? >> >> >> Wireless clients need no ports -- you can connect as many as you >> want ( actually 252 -- the number of wired clients as a class C >> address space with only 255 possible entries is used -- but I >> suspect that is way more than any current home network will have). >> >> There are only 4 wired ports -- to have more wired computers the >> easiest way is probably to use a hub. -- Brian Sullivan Meeting by Wire ( http://www.meetingbywire.com) ------------ Is your PC protected? -- http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/default.asp |
