I swapped out some older hardware for this new wireless router and setting it up was easy, everything worked just fine. However, once or twice a day the network becomes inaccessible and so far the only solution I found is to reset the base station. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong here? Thanx in advance! |

What operating system, Don? Can you give us some details? Any error messages? Have you tried resetting the modem instead of the router? -- Chris H. How can the resolution be different? It is the router that is locking up not he Machine. A router just routes traffic. It does not care what OS the packets came from. I am sorry I know you guys have these great titles but you guys are plain wrong. The OS is not the blame nor is the software/OS combo to be blamed. The dodgy router is the blame it locks up on heavy Loads. The interesting thing is all internal network resources are fine durring the lockup. It is external resources that can not be accessed. As I have said time and time again. I will consider a wireless connection being affected by OS and drivers but not a hardwired machine. Also the same computer configuration with my old linksys worked for years with no problems. Install new MN700 and now I have problems. No software changes. None of the software that came with the MN700 was installed on my machine. Again this points to the router. Its not just here that people keep asking questions that do not pertain to the problem it is also the support desk. Frankly I dont understand it. Dont take offence this this next yellout it is not directed to any one person. It is directed to MS. ITS THE ROUTER NOT OUR OS STUPID!!!!!!!!! >-----Original Message----- >We ask because the resolution may be different. >-- >Chris H. >Microsoft Windows MVP >Associate Expert >Expert Zone - www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone > ><(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message >news:0ca101c3dabd$baf3a670$(E-Mail Removed)... >> Why does everyone ask what OS. And why because I am right If you disagre then explain why it is an issue with the OS. You see this is the problem with you microsoft certified people. You have your head up MS's but that you can not see the simple facts. FACT Router has a problem. FICTION The router problem is a result of OS issues. And obviously it was worth a response becasue you responded. >-----Original Message----- >Not worth a response. >-- >Chris H. >Microsoft Windows MVP >Associate Expert >Expert Zone - www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone > > ><(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message >news:016501c3dad7$1ca8bc70$(E-Mail Removed)... >> How can the resolution be different? ><snipped> > > >. > |

Funny, but I don't answer posts like that. Especially when an anonymous poster starts name-calling. My MN-700 is working just fine, and so did the MN-500 before it. I'm sorry if you're having problems, but if we can't ask questions and receive proper responses, it is difficult to ferret out the problem. -- Chris H. I too have this issue - all systems are running WinXP (I am running SP2 Beta 1 on one machine, but the others will still not have access and they're WinXP SP1) The odd thing I see is that the wireless activity light blinks extremely fast, even when I power off all wireless-capable devices in my house. I've changed WEP keys, SSID's, and turned off my SSID broadcast to make sure no one is tapping into my network, no change. When it occurs, the router stops responding to any calls, either outbound, inbound, or to it itself (can't access configuration) - I have to powercycle it to get a response. Oddly enough, it maintains a connection with my wireless systems at 1Mbps until I reboot or try to /release & /renew, at which point I get no DHCP response. Please help! >-----Original Message----- >I swapped out some older hardware for this new wireless >router and setting it up was easy, everything worked just >fine. 1. what firmware are you running? have you upgraded to the current firmware in the 700? 2. are there other wireless devices (SSID's) in range or cordless phones? 3. can you try channel 11 on the router? 4. have you tried WPA as opposed to WEP and do you still have the problem? this should not have anything to do with SP2. I was just making sure to detail the OS's being used, as the previous person posting seemed to have issues with that... =) 1) I'm running the latest firmware, verified two days ago. 2) No cordless phones nearby that should be triggering the issue. There is one other SSID in my neighborhood that is nearby, but signal is very weak when detectable at all. 3) Already on CH 11. I'm going to try changing to CH 7. 4) Can't use WPA, have a iPaq that I don't believe supports WPA that I use infrequently, but would like to be able to if need arises. >-----Original Message----- >1. what firmware are you running? have you upgraded to the current >firmware in the 700? > >2. are there other wireless devices (SSID's) in range or cordless >phones? > >3. can you try channel 11 on the router? > >4. have you tried WPA as opposed to WEP and do you still have the >problem? > >this should not have anything to do with SP2. > >On Fri, 16 Jan 2004 17:31:03 -0800, "Josh M." ><(E-Mail Removed)> wrote: > >>I too have this issue - all systems are running WinXP (I am >>running SP2 Beta 1 on one machine, but the others will >>still not have access and they're WinXP SP1) The odd thing >>I see is that the wireless activity light blinks extremely >>fast, even when I power off all wireless-capable devices in >>my house.
