Default Just had a letter from BT

Just had a letter from BT saying that i downloaded over 100GB in september
and october and i'm going to be charged an extra £54 next month. They gave me
2 options , pay £1 per GB for every GB over 40GB each month or migrate to
another isp.
So i'm looking for a new isp. I need a 1mb service , no limit on downloads
or
at least a high download limit of over 100GB. I want to use P2P but not too
bothered by binaries.Must be able to use overnet. Thanks for any advise.

Andy.

UKonline is £9.99 per month if you are in their exchange area for 1 meg
speed/unlimited - although they do charge £25 connection fee.

Or you can go 2 meg for £14.99 and no connection fee.

Not sure what overnet is....

You get 2mb and no limits with Demon.

With BT too and will possibly be moving to Zen next year.

Was looking at Be, but do not trust their stability or the vague T&C with
regard to unmetered / uncapped.

They're going to charge you £54 next month, regardless of how much you
download? If that is the case, kick up a right fuss! They can't just
decide to bill you without first giving you a warning. You need to
leave their shitty service, and quickly.

They ar not doing this - my d/l in sep/oct was much greater than this
- they want a years charge for 1 month - joking or not - you
decide.

If you migrate, they will chare you no extra - whatever the excess
charge, maybe £300 for last month, that is waved as long as you move -
stay and be good and they will charge you - the letter mentions
september's and october's usage, charging you for october.

I mentioned to them many have migrated to BT business on residential
lines, for £5 a month more giving 8 hours service level agreement and
no d/l limits AT ALL - crazy.

Still, got my mac code, off to Zen - no d/l limit at all.

I looked into that but was told you can't unless you have a business line?

If the cost fits you Zen is the way to go.

So you regularly d/l over 100GB per month?

1Mb maxed out continuously is just over 300GB per month so you would be
downloading over a third of that. At 50:1 contention 6GB per month would be
fair use - 100 is taking the michael a bit.

Before complaining about the £54 charge I suggest you look at how much a 5:1
SDSL line would cost you (hint about £250) because that's what you *should*
be paying for.

Bullshit - that's the bull they feed that people believe - many ISP's
charge little more than basic BT with no limits - BT's own business
2Mb bb service costs £35/month inc, with 8 hour service and NO limit.

Zen have no limit - BT are charging, or scheming ways to charge
because they want to rob people and make money the only way they can -
charge for b/w because millions are leaving BT - you can get cheaper
calls, BB, and voice over BB for free - and BT have little future at
this rate.

Except you will still be using the BT local loop & BT equipment inside a
BT building. You will not be able to get away from BT in the near
future, but BT is changing it's colours in the near future so although
the name may be different it will still be BT...
